Why this is annoying

A browser translation leaves you with a page, not a cooking copy.

Cookpad recipes often mix familiar food names with measurements and short method notes such as 弱火, 粗熱を取る, or 適量. Translating the screen can help you read it, but you still have to move between the ingredient list and each step.

Shio separates the recipe first. The English version keeps the amount beside the ingredient and the heat or time beside the instruction.

How it works

Three steps. Then it looks like a recipe.

  1. 01

    Copy the recipe URL

Open the public Cookpad recipe page and copy its full web address.

  2. 02

    Translate to English

Paste the link above. Shio extracts the recipe and translates the ingredients and instructions.

  3. 03

    Review and save

Check informal amounts and ingredient names, then keep the English copy with its source.

Before and after

The ingredient list and method stay connected.

You get a recipe you can scan while cooking, with Japanese terms retained when the original name is useful.

In the source

In Shio

豚バラ肉 300g

300 g pork belly

しょうゆ 大さじ2

2 tbsp Japanese soy sauce

弱火で10分煮る

Simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.

塩 適量

Salt, as needed (amount not stated).

One honest caveat

Keep useful Japanese names when you shop.

Dashi, mirin, shiso, aburaage, and regional ingredients may be easier to find under their Japanese names. Review the English copy before replacing a specific product with a broad translation.

Use the recipe page

A search page or collection page does not contain one complete ingredient list and method.

Leave 適量 imprecise

It means the cook decides the amount. Check the surrounding step instead of assigning a fake spoon measure.

Questions people ask

The useful answers.

Can I translate a public Cookpad recipe into English?

Yes. Paste the public recipe page URL into the tool. Shio extracts the recipe and returns an English cooking copy for review.

Does this work with Cookpad screenshots?

Screenshot import is available in the Shio app. Include the title, full ingredient list, and every instruction screen in reading order.

Will Japanese measurements stay attached to the right ingredients?

Shio keeps each amount with its ingredient. It also retains intentionally loose amounts such as 適量 instead of inventing a number.
