Shio guide

How to save an Instagram Reel as a recipe

Share the Reel to Shio. It pulls the ingredients and instructions from the video, on-screen text, and caption into one recipe, so you do not have to rewatch it at dinner.

Hot Honey Prosciutto Pizza

35 min · serves 3

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pizza dough
  • 6 oz mozzarella
  • 3 oz prosciutto

Ready to cook

Amounts, steps, and timers are now in one place.

Available on iPhone and Android

Try a recipe link

Start with the recipe page. Keep the app for the Reel.

A normal recipe website can be previewed below. Instagram keeps most of a Reel behind the video player, so Shio reads that source inside the app.

  • Recipe sites
  • TikTok
  • Instagram
  • YouTube
  • RedNote
  • and more

Recipe webpages preview here. Video links continue in Shio, where the app can read more than the caption.

Nothing is saved here. Check the original recipe before cooking, especially amounts, temperatures, and allergens.

Why this is annoying

Saving the Reel is not the same as saving the recipe.

Instagram remembers the post. It does not remember the ingredient list, put the groceries in one place, or tell you what comes after the creator says “now add this.”

Sometimes the quantity flashes on screen for half a second. Sometimes the caption says the full recipe is in the comments. And sometimes you are standing over a hot pan, scrubbing backward through a 42-second video with one clean finger.

How it works

Three steps. Then it looks like a recipe.

  1. 01

    Tap Share

Open the Reel, tap the share button, and choose Shio from the share sheet.

  2. 02

    Or paste the link

If Shio is not in your recent apps, copy the Reel link and paste it into Shio instead.

  3. 03

    Review and save

Check the amounts and temperatures, make any quick edits, and save it to the cookbook where you will actually find it.

Before and after

A Reel becomes something you can cook from.

Shio gathers the useful pieces into one place. It does not need the creator to have written a tidy recipe first.

In the source

In Shio

“full recipe is in the video”

Ingredients and instructions collected into one recipe.

“a good glug of olive oil”

The wording stays visible for you to review instead of being quietly treated as an exact amount.

“bake until done”

A timer and temperature are added when the creator actually states them.

One honest caveat

Shio can only read what it can reach.

Private posts, deleted Reels, and posts that Instagram will not load outside the app may not import from a link. Screenshots are the useful backup plan.

Try the link once more

Some posts load slowly. A second import often works after the Reel has had a moment to load.

Use screenshots

Capture the ingredient screens and written directions, then upload the screenshots directly to Shio.

Questions people ask

The useful answers.

Can Shio save a Reel without a written caption?

Yes, when the recipe is spoken or shown on screen. The more the creator actually says or displays, the more complete the first import will be.

Can I import from a private Instagram account?

A private post may not be available to Shio through its link. If you can view it, take screenshots of the recipe and upload those instead.

Does the saved recipe keep the original source?

Yes. Keep the source link with the recipe so you can return to the creator's original post.

Your recipe is waiting

Save it once. Cook from the clean version.

Shio is free to download on iPhone and Android. Review the imported recipe before cooking, especially amounts, temperatures, allergies, and dietary changes.
